Zometric Gauge Management keeps every gauge calibrated on time, signed off by the right people, tracked wherever it goes and proven by MSA studies against the thresholds you set.
Gauge calibration management keeps every measuring instrument in a plant fit for use: it knows when each gauge is due, records each calibration against its procedure, decides whether the gauge can go back into service and keeps the evidence for auditors. IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 require it for every instrument that proves product conformity. Measurement systems analysis (MSA) goes one step further and shows, with studies such as Gage R&R, that the measurement system can tell good parts from bad ones.
Zometric Gauge Management keeps one record per gauge, from registration to retirement. A gauge's category sets its rules: how often it is calibrated, whether MSA studies are required and how often, and the thresholds the studies are judged against. Each measurement capability of a gauge, such as a range and resolution on one characteristic, can be studied on its own.
Around the record, the module runs calibration schedules, calibration records with test points, signatures and certificates, issue, return and transfer of gauges, kits, external service requests, maintenance and an event log. Status changes follow from what happens to the gauge, and email or webhook rules can react to the same events.
Why teams switch
Problems Zometric Gauge Management removes
Six things metrology and quality teams say about keeping gauges under control, and what changes with Zometric.
01Due dates
Calibration due dates live in a spreadsheet, and an overdue gauge keeps measuring parts.
With Zometric
Each gauge has its own schedule in one of nine frequency types, from months to usage cycles, with due dates moved off holidays. The calibration-due view ranks gauges as overdue, due soon or upcoming, and reminders go out ahead of the date.
Calibration schedules
02Intervals
Every gauge gets twelve months, whether it never drifts or failed last time.
With Zometric
Interval adjustment lengthens the interval after a pass and shortens it after a failure, by a fixed factor and within the minimum and maximum you set. A failure pulls the due date back to the last good calibration, so the gauge shows overdue at once.
Automatic interval adjustment
03Sign-off
Anyone can sign a certificate, including the person who did the calibration.
With Zometric
A calibration is signed twice: calibrated by, then approved by. Only signatories named for the gauge's category can sign, nobody can approve their own work, and a calibrator whose certificate has expired cannot sign. The certificate PDF exists only after approval.
Two-step signatures
04Whereabouts
Nobody knows who has the gauge or where it went.
With Zometric
Gauges are issued to a person and department, with the part they measure, and returned against the same record. Location transfers and whole kits are tracked too, and scanning a gauge's QR code opens it straight away.
Issue, return and QR
05MSA
Gage R&R runs once a year in an offline template, if at all.
With Zometric
Studies sit on each measurement capability of the gauge, with thresholds and minimum sample sizes set per category. Completed studies schedule the next one, and the MSA dashboard shows what is due.
MSA studies
06Status
The gauge says in use, but it went out for repair last week.
With Zometric
Status follows events: issued, returned, calibration passed or failed, an event logged, a service request sent or received. Rules map each event to a status, for all gauges or per category.

How it works
How a gauge moves through Zometric
From registration to retirement, every step adds to the same gauge record.
01
Register · Gauge
Register the gauge
Create the gauge with its category, type, capabilities and custom fields, adding any missing list value on the spot. The next tracking ID is suggested and a QR label printed. Whole registers move in through bulk entry grids.
02
Plan · Schedule
Set the calibration schedule
Choose the frequency, the holiday calendar, the projected dates and whether the interval adjusts itself. Without a schedule, the category's interval applies from the last passed calibration.
03
Use · Issue and return
Issue and return it
Issue the gauge or a kit to a person and department with the part it measures, transfer it between locations, and return it. Usage and cycle counts update on return.
04
Calibrate · Record
Record the calibration
Pick the procedure and enter as-found and as-left readings for each test point against its limits, with the reference standards used, environment, uncertainty, outcome and disposition.
05
Approve · Certificate
Sign and issue the certificate
The calibrator signs, the approver is notified and countersigns, and an in-house calibration gets its certificate number. The PDF certificate carries the readings, the standards with their traceability numbers and both signatures.
06
Prove · MSA
Study the measurement system
Run Type 1, Gage R&R, bias, linearity, attribute or stability studies on each capability. Results are judged against the category's thresholds, and the next study is scheduled.
07
Automate · Rules
Let events do the paperwork
Status rules update the gauge as it is issued, calibrated or serviced, and email or webhook rules notify people and other systems, with a dry run to test them first.

What it does
Gauge Management & MSA — what you actually get.
Each capability is tied to a decision your team is already trying to make.
Gauge Register
One record per gauge from purchase to retirement: tracking ID and QR label, category and type, measurement capabilities, custom fields, owner, storage and current location, sources, cost and reference-standard traceability.
Calibration Scheduling
Nine frequency types, from months to usage cycles, with due dates moved off holidays. Intervals can lengthen after passes and shorten after a failure, within your limits, and due and overdue reminders go to the people who subscribe.
Calibration Records & Certificates
As-found and as-left readings for each test point against absolute or percentage limits, the reference standards used, uncertainty, outcome and disposition. Calibrated-by and approved-by signatures, and a certificate PDF only once approved.
MSA — Gauge R&R Studies
Type 1, crossed and nested Gage R&R, bias, linearity and bias, attribute gage, attribute agreement and stability studies, tied to the gauge capability or characteristic they prove. Thresholds and minimum sample sizes are set per category, with AIAG defaults.
Issue, Return & Kits
Issue gauges to people and departments, record the part they measure, return them, transfer them between locations, or issue a whole kit at once. A camera scanner opens any gauge from its QR code.
Status Rules & Automation
Gauge status follows events — issued, returned, passed, failed, sent for service — by rules you set per category. Email and webhook rules fire on the same events, with a dry-run mode, rate limits and a log of every run.
In numbers
How a calibration interval adjusts itself
With interval adjustment switched on, each pass multiplies the interval by 1.2 and each failure by 0.67, rounded to whole units and kept between the minimum and maximum. A stronger setting uses 1.5 and 0.5. After a pass, the next due date counts from that calibration. After a failure, it counts from the last passed calibration, so a gauge that fails late in its interval becomes overdue at once.

The first pass turns 12 months into 14.4, rounded to 14, so the next calibration falls due on 15 March 2027. The second pass gives 16.8, rounded to 17. The third calibration fails: 17 × 0.67 is 11.39, so the interval drops to 11 months and the due date is recounted from the last pass on 10 March 2027, giving 10 February 2028. That date has already passed, so the gauge shows overdue until it is recalibrated. After the repair it passes, and 11 × 1.2 gives 13 months.

FAQ
Gauge & MSA: frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the questions teams ask before a demo.
What is gauge calibration management software?
It keeps every measuring instrument fit for use: it schedules calibrations, records the results against procedures, controls sign-off and certificates, and tracks where each gauge is. Zometric Gauge Management also runs MSA studies, such as Gage R&R, on each gauge's measurement capabilities.
How are calibration due dates calculated?
From the gauge's schedule: days, weeks, months, years, a day of the month, the end of the month, each use, usage days or cycles. Due dates can be moved forward or back off holidays in a skip calendar. If a gauge has no schedule yet, its category's interval applies from the last passed calibration.
Can the calibration interval adjust itself?
Yes. With interval adjustment switched on, a pass multiplies the interval by 1.2 and a failure by 0.67, or 1.5 and 0.5 with the stronger setting, kept between the minimum and maximum you set. After a failure the due date is recounted from the last passed calibration.
Who can sign a calibration?
Two people sign: the calibrator and the approver. Both must be signatories for the gauge's category, the approver cannot be the calibrator, and a calibrator whose certificate has expired cannot sign. Un-signing records who, when and why, and the certificate PDF is only available once the calibration is approved.
Which MSA studies are supported?
Type 1 gage studies, crossed and nested Gage R&R, bias, linearity and bias, attribute gage studies, attribute agreement analysis with kappa, and stability studies with control charts. Gauge studies run on one measurement capability of a gauge, and attribute agreement runs on the characteristic being inspected.
What thresholds are MSA results judged against?
The ones set on the gauge's category. The defaults follow the AIAG MSA manual: %GRR under 10% acceptable and up to 30% marginal, at least 5 distinct categories, and Cg and Cgk of at least 1.33. Minimum sample sizes are checked before a study is calculated.
Does it track who has a gauge?
Yes. Gauges and kits are issued to a person and department, with the part being measured, and returned against the same record. Location transfers are recorded separately, and the movement dashboard shows what is out and not yet back.
Can I bring in my existing gauge list?
Yes. Bulk entry grids cover gauges, categories, custom fields, locations, schedules, calibration records, movements and more, and check each row as it is entered. Administrators can also import CSV and Excel files.
